Is it necessary to come on both days? Yes, the course is structured as such, therefore we request students to book only once they have availed themselves for the entirety of the weekend, except in the case of modules where students attend independently of the weekend at a fixed rate of £100 per module, which is inclusive of the comprehensive study pack worth £75.
Is staying overnight essential? No, you need not stay overnight if you are local to Watford. However it is recommended you do, so as to experience the whole weekend of meeting, studying and networking.
How long are each of the Individual Courses with aCa? Each of our Individual Subject Courses are for 4 hours, making a total of 16 hours over the Weekend - in short 4 hours per subject, two courses per day therefore consisting of 8 hours per day.
How are the Courses structured within the four hourly time frames? The first two hours consist of a Lecture where the fundamentals will be taught and explained with emphasis on exam technique and preparation. The latter two hours are on a tutorial basis where the Study Packs will be utilised - see below.
What if I want to book a residential weekend but do not need to study all four subjects taught?
The structure of the weekend is such that aCa will offer four hours of
revision lectures/seminars per subject listed for that weekend. As you
will note from the site, individual subject courses can be booked at
£100 each so booking for the Weekend Package offers you a substantial discount
and will also include one night's accommodation at the Hotel.
Therefore if one of the subjects taught on the weekend you are
interested in booking is not of interest to you it is still worthwhile
booking for the Weekend Package and not attending the subject you do not
need to. You can always take advantage of being able to take a 20
minute train into Central London.
What experience do aCa's lecturers have? The majority of the lectures will be undertaken by aCa's Principle Lecturer, Camilla Choudhury - Khawaja who has extensive experience of teaching law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level; however, should the subject require a specialist in that respective field, a suitably appointed lecturer from aCa's panel will be utilised to teach. Note all our Visiting Lecturers are qualified lawyers with experience in academia also.
Are we given any study materials? Yes. An extensive study pack will be provided to you upon commencement of the course.
How will I know my booking with aCa is confirmed? You will receive an automated email, which will be required upon your registration with aCa on the Saturday morning of your chosen course(s).
What is the cancellation procedure? You may cancel up to ten working days prior to the commencement of the course you have paid for, subject to administration fee of £25.
Are any meals included in the course fee? No, however mineral water is provided during the lectures for the students.
Can I request a smoking room? Please refer to the Jurys' Inn website for further information.
What time is check in/check out? You will be allocated a room upon your arrival on Saturday morning, however the room itself may not be available until your lunch break. Check out can be done again during your lunch break on the sunday.
Is car parking available at the Hotel?
No, car parking is not available at the hotel. Public car parks are however very closeby, namely the Harlequin shopping centre or Sutton (operates a 24 hour service) car parks.
Are there restaurants in the Hotel?
Yes, there are both bars and restaurants within the hotel.
Is Wi Fi available at the Hotel? Yes, it is - in both the lecture rooms, and the hotel rooms.
Can payment be made on the day of tuition? No. Payment must be made online via aCa's website prior to commencement of the course.
Is there a deadline for booking a course? No however we operate on a policy of limiting to 25 students per course therefore we recommend booking early if a course is of particular interest.
Can I book now and pay later? No. Booking and payment has to be done prior to registration on the day of the course.
Are there any discounts? Yes. Discounts are available to students whom book more than one weekend at a non-accumulative rate of 10%.
Can I buy the study packs without attending the course? Yes. Study packs are available to purchase for £75 + p&p per course without attending the course. It is however advisable that students attend the course as the materials contained within these study packs while being both substantive and comprehensive, would benefit from further guidance which is given by our tutors during the tutorial sessions. Here, the student would be guided through the material, with specific cases being identified, and also passages highlighted to be memorised verbatim and utilised during examination purposes.
However, if you are unable to attend the course these study packs will assist greatly with exam preparation for each subject including model answers to popular examination questions and exercises which will give you the skills to identify what the examiner is looking for.
